‘Skyrim’ News & Updates: Special Edition Has Massively Better Graphics Than Original? Hardcore Difficulty? Skyrim Never Looked Better!

When Bethesda released the much-anticipated "Skyrim," the open-world fantasy RPG was met with much fanfare. The latest installment in the legendary Elder Scrolls series proved to be a resounding success with both hardcore and casual gamers alike.

"Skyrim" was praised for its endless replay value, jaw-dropping moments, unrivaled immersion, and how great it looked from start to finish. However, with the recent release of the revamped special edition, could it be possible that "Skyrim" could look better than it originally did? To put it plainly, yes. Definitely, yes.

How is this possible you may ask? The answers are updated hardware -- next gen consoles and PCs with more CPU and GPU power -- developer reworks, and with an eye towards the future, the wondrous world of modding. According to iDigital Times, "Skyrim" Special Edition will allow console players access to what the PC community has thoroughly enjoyed for many years: the ability to create and install user-generated mods for use in the original game. Besides the Special Edition improving on the vanilla game's graphics on its own merit, fans are expecting the glorious visual overhaul mods, such as ENBs and Climates of Tamriel, to eventually make their way to the consoles.

As per Gamespot, the "Skyrim" Special Edition has a select number of mods available for download right now. There are over 200 mods available for download on the Xbox One but only 27 for the PS4. Console players have to rely Bethesda's official workshop to download mods, so until Bethesda provides more support for the PS4, players are at their behest.

Mods such as eliminating health regeneration, invincible dog companions, and expanding village sizes are some of the featured available to give "Skyrim" a newer, more customized feel as adjusted by the player. Players can expect much more mods to come as modders start crafting new mods or transferring current modsto the consoles. From survival needs to elemental dragons, the introduction of mods to the console world is only the tip of the iceberg. Skyrim "Special Edition" is now available for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
