Facebook, in an effort to boost revenue from the growing number of users who access the social network on smaller screens, is in talks with Apple and Microsoft to bring versions of its Home software to the iPhone and Windows Phone, Bloomberg reports.
Facebook director of product Adam Mosseri confirms the discussion in an interview on Bloomberg West while noting that nothing has been finalized. "We've shown them what we've built and we're just in an ongoing conversation," Mosseri says, referring to discussions with Apple and Microsoft.
The Home software will be tailored on iPhone devices to Apple's preferences which would look much different than the Android version. "It may or may not be Home," Mosseri said. "We could also just bring some of the design values to the iOS app. That might be how it ends up. Or we could build just the lock screen. Maybe then it's not called Home, it's called something else," he adds.
Originally released for Android devices, Facebook Home arrived on Google Play last Friday is only available only to U.S. customers and on select devices at the launch. The application puts Facebook at the forefront of the phone by displaying photos on the lock screen and transforms the chat experience with overlays called Chat Heads.
Talking to Fortune shortly after the Home launch, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company has a "good relationship" with Apple. "We'd love to offer this on iPhone, and we just can't today, and we will work with Apple to do the best experience that we can within what they want," he adds.
