'Monster Hunter Online' Is Free-to-Play And China-Exclusive, But Here's Some Footage Anyway

Capcom is teaming up with Tencent Games to bring China "Monster Hunter Online," a free-to-play MMO set in the "Monster Hunter" universe. The series, well known for its grueling co-operative play and heavy grinding mechanic, is wildly popular in Asian markets. "Monster Hunter Online" is only coming to China so far, much like "Call of Duty Online," which is currently going through beta testing in that territory.

The new game uses Crytek's CryEngine3 and may be the prettiest "Monster Hunter" yet. Check out the trailer below to get a better idea. Textures, animations and character models are much cleaner than in the recently released "Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate" for the Wii U, an HD-upgrade to the Wii's "Monter Hunter Tri."

Also shown off in the trailer are some sort of water vehicles, interesting weaponry and, seeing as it's an MMO, much more than the normal four players in one room at a time.

Beta testing for the title starts in June.
