Samsung has introduced a new addition to its Galaxy Tab line, a 7-inch tablet that will hit the shelves in late spring or early summer.
Although Samsung did not announce a price for the tablet, the specifications point to the fact that the South Korean tech titan looks to target budget-conscious buyers.
The Galaxy Tab carries the now-standard hardware Home button flanked by capacitive Back and Menu buttons and has a thinner bezel than its predecessor. The tablet features a 7-inch 1,024-by-600 pixel display with pixel densities of 169 ppi. The device is powered by a dual-core 1.2 gigahertz processor, 1 GB of RAM and is available in either 8GB or 16GB of storage types. Users have the option of expanding its memory to up to 64GB with a microSD card slot. It runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, out of the box. The device will come with a 3-megapixel camera on the back and a 1.3-megpapixel front-facing shooter.
According to Samsung, the Wi-Fi version will debut globally beginning in May while the 3G model, which enables users to make phones with the device, will come later in June. "The product availability varies by market and will be rolled out gradually," Samsung said in a press release.
