Darkest Dungeon Latest News and Updates: One Million Units Sold and Official Mod Support Due for Release

A game funded through crowdfunding, Darkest Dungeon is reputedly one of the amazing crowdfunding success stories. It generated $313,000.00 via Kickstarter, developed the game and made bug fixes in Early Access. It eventually turned out to be a very good game. Coupled with a nice timing of release on PS Vista and PlayStation 4, it has now sold a wee over a million copies.

The bulk of the sale of the Darkest Dungeon have come from Steam - that's a whopping 94% of the total sales - despite the game being also available in other platforms such as the GOG, PSN, OSX App Store, Humble. Nuuvem, CDP.pl and SoftClub. Yes, we can credit this gargantuan sale to the popularity of Steam but it is also interesting to note that the game definitely also benefited from the Steam-exclusive Early Access release which enabled them to sell more than 50,000 copies in the first 24 hours.

By being first on Steam means that Darkest Dungeon has been there the longest time. The Early Access Release happened last year on Feb. 3, 2015. GOG was not in until January 2016. A very big time difference. Thought they had decent sales (about 50,000 copies worldwide), the recent release is the most probable reason why it is only a fraction of the total sales of the studio. It was also announced that the Crimson Court, the first DLC, was to be released in early 2017. Red Hook also announced that the official MOD support is set to be available also.

With regards to 'Game 2' this is what Red Hook has to say: "'Game 2' hasn't begun production yet, and this in no way means that we are done supporting or adding to Darkest Dungeon. But as long as you keep supporting what we do, we want to keep making things for you! It is not hyperbole to say that we are doing our dream jobs, and we love what we do."
