‘Diablo 3: Rise of the Necromancer’ DLC Release Date, Gameplay, News & Update: Necromancer vs. The Witch Doctor – What’s the Difference? [TRAILER]

Blizzard is bringing the old Necromancer from "Diablo 2" to the latest installment, "Diablo 3," via a game-add on. The game developer hosted its BlizzCon 2016 event over the weekend and made an announcement on the arrival of the "Rise of the Necromancer" pack.

Blizzard confirmed that "Diablor 3: Rise of the Necromancer" downloadable content (DLC) will arrive sometime in 2017. It will require the base game and the "Reaper of Souls" expansion to run on PC and the "Ultimate Evil Edition" to run on PS4 and Xbox One. The upcoming DLC brings back "Diablo 2's" character class Necromancer, the dark arts master who has the ability to summon armies of undead and power them using blood magic.

With a character that's able to summon the dead and use them as warriors, fans now wonder how different the new character in "Diablo 3: Rise of the Necromancer" DLC is from The Witch Doctor. As explained by Blizzard, the two character classes are different from each other in play style and theme. Generally, Witch Doctors have a "light-hearted take on supernatural powers" in contrast to the Necromancers' dark arts.

There was also a challenge in bringing the undead summoner in "Diablo 3: Rise of the Necromancer" for the guys over at Blizzard since both Necromancers and The Witch Doctors have something in common. "There was a lot of discussion about how do we make these [two classes] cool and different, and for me how to distinguish the Necro from the Witch Doctor as much as possible. That's been one of my biggest design priorities," designer Travis Day told Polygon.

Currently, Blizzard is working hard in developing the Necromancer class, but the developer will give more details as "Diablo 3: Rise of the Necromancer" DLC nears release. Also included in the upcoming pack is an in-game pet, two character slots, two more stash tabs for PC, pennant, banner and banner sigil and portrait fame. An exact release date for the DLC has yet to be announced. Check out the official trailer below.
