PS4 Pro vs PS4 Comparison, Price & Specs: Which Sony Console Deserves Your Money?

Excited for the PS4 Pro? Well it's almost here and here are some pretty interesting upgrades you may want to know. Fans are looking out for a PS4 Pro vs PS4 comparison. Aside from HDR playback capabilities and improved internal components that will ensure smoothness of the game with greater detail, the PS4 Pro console also has 4k output. Due to that, developers can now create games in both the PS4 mode and PS4 Pro mode.

New Look

PS4 Pro vs PS4 #1: The most seeming difference between the appearance of the original PS4 and the PS4 Pro is the extra layer added to the console. With this, the dimensions have also changed. The measurements of the original PS4 are 275.1 mm x 305.1 mm x 53.1 mm and the PS4 Pro is slightly bigger with 295 mm x 327 mm x 55 mm. Consequently, it is also heavier by over a pound.

Connectors

PS4 Pro vs PS4 #2: With the rear connectors, the two consoles are almost identical. There is an additional USB 3.0 port though with the PS4 Pro which we know will be very useful if you're planning to connect a PlayStation VR. While they both have an HDMI port, the PS4 Pro has a better one. The original PS4 had an HDMI 1.4 port while the PS4 Pro has an HDMI 2.0 port for its 4k resolution output.

Optical Drive

PS4 Pro vs PS4 #3: Well, sorry to say, PS4 does not have an extra Ultra HD Blu-ray player. Yet it can still play Full HD 1080p Blue-ray disks.

Internal

PS4 Pro vs PS4 #4: In terms of the CPU, we have seen a 30% upgrade in clock speed with the PS4 Pro having 2.1GHz from 1.6GHz. The GPU Power has been doubled with its clock speed increased from 800MHz to 911MHz. With this, the total GPU has leaped from 1.84 TFLOP to 4.2 TFLOP which is needed in order to achieve 4k functionality. The PS4 Pro has an increased 1GB of DDR3 RAM for non-gaming applications which will free up the GDDR5 RAM for gaming which will make it faster.

Performance

PS4 Pro vs PS4 #5: Again, there is a substantial difference due to the new 4k capability of PS4 Pro. This means that when it comes to streaming services like Netflix in its full resolution. But in terms of physical 4k media, it's a boon due to the lack of an Ultra HD Blu-ray drive.

Now the Question: Is it worth the jump from PS4 to PS4 Pro?

The PS4 Pro is definitely faster. But the main consideration you should make is if you have or plan to have a 4K TV. If you are not planning to indulge on the new visual benefits of the PS4 Pro, then we believe that the other upgrades in PS4 Pro are not that worth your extra money, at least, not as of the moment.
