Microsoft Surface Book 2 Release Date, News & Update: High-end Laptop Predecessor Already Launched As Surface i7? Specs, Features, Launch Dates Revealed
It's been a while since tech fans have last heard of the rumored Microsoft Surface Book 2, which has been overshadowed by the Microsoft Surface i7 lately. Indeed, the newly launched Microsoft 2-in-1 laptop has been the subject of admiration, given its incomparable power and performance specs. This led several skeptics to believe that the Microsoft Surface Book 2 was actually the Microsoft Surface i7. Should fans then scrap hopes for a Surface Pro successor?
What we know so far
The new Microsoft Surface i7 recently launched during the Microsoft October event, to the delight of several laptop fans. The main highlight of the device was a dual-core Intel Core i7-6600U chip, sporting a custom NVidia GeForce GPU and a 1GB GDDR5 memory, according to PCWorld. It's touted as the "best of the best" by no less than Microsoft and Intel themselves, which led many people to believe that it could be the Microsoft Surface Book 2 they've all been waiting for.
Before all this, the Microsoft Surface Book 2 was widely believed to sport the upcoming Intel Kaby Lake processors and the Intel HD Graphics 520 GPU. It's also supposed to include support for 4K video and architecture, according to TechRadar.
Major changes, upgrades
But what Microsoft lovers really wanted to see on the Microsoft Surface Book 2 was longer battery life, as the laptop supposedly drained after only 4 hours of use. In contrast, the Microsoft Surface i7 reportedly has a 16-hour battery life.
Another wishlist for the Microsoft Surface Book 2 was an improvement on its salient feature: the hinge, as it was prone to accumulated dirt and receptacles. Fans wished for a detachable screen, or, at the very least, a functional hinge.
Of course, to expect the Microsoft Surface Book 2 to release this year would be reaching. Hopefully, however, it would release next year, alongside the equally anticipated Microsoft Surface Pro 5.
