Microsoft Surface Phone 2016 has been a favorite subject of numerous rumors and speculations all over the Internet since the beginning of 2016. Many fans were disappointed when Microsoft decided to skip the highly anticipated smartphone during its recently concluded October event. The Redmond-based company instead announced the new Microsoft Surface Studio among others. Now, new reports have emerged suggesting that Microsoft Surface Phone will be launched during the first quarter of 2017 to compete with iPhone 7 and iPhone 8.

According to the report, Microsoft Surface Phone 2016 will be unveiled alongside other Microsoft hardware products including the much-awaited Microsoft Surface Pro 5. There are speculations suggesting that Microsoft is doing its best to bring the name of the company back to the smartphone market. The American tech giant has failed miserably when they decided to partner with Nokia and released the Lumia smartphone series. Since then, Microsoft has lost its relevance in the tight smartphone market with Apple and Samsung currently leading the charge.

While the company continued to stay silent with regard to the development and release of Microsoft Surface Phone 2016, several rumors have already revealed its upcoming specs and features. There are also speculations suggesting that the new smartphone will arrive in three variations, which will different in sizes and features.

Microsoft Surface Phone 2016 is expected to run on Intel's Kaby Lake processor, which has already been confirmed to come out by the end of the year. Intel has already announce that the development of its next generation core processor will end during the holiday season, which is perfect for a 2017 release of Microsoft Surface Phone. Apart from its powerful processor, the device will also run on Windows 10 Redstone 2.

Meanwhile, reports are circulating that Microsoft will adapt Samsung's AMOLED technology for its Microsoft Surface Phone 2016. It is also expected to carry an amazing liquid cooling system to make sure its processor continues to deliver. The new smartphone is speculated to sport a 20 MP Carl Zeiss camera, which is expected to become one of the highlights of the device.
