Activision Warns About ‘Uncertainties’ With Console Transition

It seems like Activision is playing its cards safe as far as transition from the current generation consoles to the next generation is concerned. Recently Activision CEO Bobby Kotick had some advice for investors about the next generation of the gaming industry and the number of unknown factors that are involved with it.

"We continue to face the uncertainties of the console transition," Kotick warns investors, as picked up by Expert Reviews. "There are still many unknown factors, such as pricing, launch dates and quantities, the level of first-party support and, importantly, consumer purchase intent in a world where consoles are no longer just competing with each other, but also with new platforms, such as smartphones and tablets.”

While everybody involved with gaming as well as the gaming industry is sure that Activision will be continuing on its merry ways in the future with its upcoming titles, Kotick is not taking anything for granted.

Activision already has a perfect sales model going its way in the current generation, built on the likes of top notch gaming titles. However, nobody is quite sure how the next generation will work out for the company (with factors like changes to PSN and Xbox Live, and Cloud Gaming coming into play), and if it will maintain its successful business strategy.

Kotick also acknowledged the fact that non-traditional video game devices from companies like Apple and Google have become a major competing factor in the minds of buyers.

As of now, Activision is getting ready for the next Call of Duty title – Call of Duty: Ghosts – which is set for a May 21 reveal during the showcasing event for the next generation Xbox.
