Carmageddon Free For 24 Hour On iOS And Android

Stainless Games announced today that the Android version of their ultra violent classic "Carmageddon" is available and will be free for a full 24 hours along with last year's iOS version.

Inspired by equally controversial 1970s cult film "Death Race 2000," "Carmageddon," was banned in many countries including Germany and Brazil for allowing players the ability to run over human pedestrians during gameplay.  The UK version of the game replaced humans with zombies that spewed green blood and robots that bled black oil after hit to gain clearance by the countries' rating boards.

Android users will get "Carmageddon" in three versions today; a demo version, the $3.99 full version with in-App purchases to unlock all cars and tracks and the free "PROMO" version.

The British developer said that after the first 24 hours of release, the game will be removed from Google Play and will be unsupported. This means potential glitches and bugs won't be able to be fixed though in a press release, Stainless Games pointed to the other versions. Those versions will receive full support and updates for the lifetime of the game. If the the PROMO version has been already downloaded, the full version will be discounted to $1.99.

Android's version will be missing a few features from the iOS version. That includes action replay saving to YouTube along with the lack of cloud saving or achievements.

Devices running Android will require Gingerbread 2.3.4 or later to run along with supporting high resolution and widescreen. Visual upgrades come in the form of enhanced pre-lit environments, environment maps and other special effects.  Multiple control methods from digital, analogue and tilt functionality outside the ability to edit control layout to player preference.

"Carmageddon" made its debut in the late 90s for DOS before getting ported to Microsoft Windows later on that year. The success of those versions gave way to console ports to the Playstation, Game Boy Color and Nintendo 64. The game offers 28 opponents, 11 environments, a single player featuring 36 levels and 30 unlockable cars.
