Less than a month after it was released in the market, GoPro's Karma drone is now being recalled. The company noted that there were some reported cases of power failure in some Karma drones they sold.
In an announcement and FAQs page, GoPro explained that they decided to recall the Karma because of performance issues that had to do with the power of the device. "We plan to resume shipment of Karma once the issue is addressed," the company added.
Addressing the problem
The answers to the frequently asked questions, which came with instructions on how to return the units, explained that GoPro is already coordinating with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Federal Aviation Administration to address the loss of power of some units. The company, however, noted that the Hero5 Black and Karma Grip are not included in the recall.
GoPro CEO Nicholas Woodman said the move was done to make sure that all users of the drone are safe. "Safety is our top priority. We are very sorry to have inconvenienced our customers and we are taking every step to make the return and refund process as easy as possible," he added.
Recover in sales
The company earlier announced that they expected the Karma and the Hero5 to help them recover from the plunge in sales for the recent months. Woodman added that the new products will bring back profitability in the company.
Karma release date and price
Since its release last Oct. 23, GoPro said they have sold around 2,500 Karma drones. Each gadget is sold for $799. It was released in response to the drone releases of DJI which did well in the market.
However, because of this recall, GoPro is now seen as a company which cannot equal DJI when it comes to drones. Fans of the device are still awaiting on when it would release the Karma again to the market.
