‘Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden’ & ‘One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum’ Cross-Game Battle Patch Update: Local & Online Battles; Where to Avail

The cross-game battle update for "One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum" and "Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden" has been released in Japan. It is currently available on the Nintendo eShop.

Gematsu revealed that previously, Bandai Namco announced that both Nintendo 3DS titles will be updated early in November 2016 to provide cross-game battle support. The newly launched cross-game battle update allows players who own "One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum" to battle players who own "Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden," and vice-versa.

The cross-game update features both online and local battles. Siliconera stated that the cross-play update allows players to battle each other regardless of whether they own "One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum" or "Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden." As a result, dream matches between characters from both series have become a reality for fans.

Goku or Vegeta from the "Dragon Ball Z" series can go against characters like Monkey D. Luffy or Nami from the "One Piece" manga. However, players who own "Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden" can only use characters from the series, while those who own "One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum" are limited to playing characters from the series.

The official trailer for the cross-game battle update showed the various charactersfrom both series in 2D dueling for supremacy. It was interesting to see the Super Saiyans taking on the extraordinary pirates. The four-minute clip also showcased their different abilities and special attacks on the Nintendo 3DS.

Both games have similarities and there were talks that "One Piece" by Arc Systems was developed to allow cross-play with "Dragon Ball Z" even before it released. "One Piece" features a mode that allows players to choose their favorite characters by completing the in-game story.

It would be advantageous for players who own both titles, since they can use characters from either series. "Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden" released in June 2015, while "One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum" became available in Japan in September 2016.

Interested players of "Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden" and "One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum" can go to the Nintendo eShop to avail of the patch. It is still uncertain whether the update will be available in other places. More updates and details on the new cross-play update are expected soon.
