You Can Control This Game With Your Mind

Austria based StillAlive Studios announced today a partnership with mind controlled headset developer Emotiv for its upcoming Son of Nor.

StillAlive CEO Julian Mautner recently launched a Kickstarter to raise $150k for the project that will allow players to control character actions including telekinesis and terraforming with their minds through Emotiv's headset. Described as a third person action title by the developers and set in a desert world, Son of Nor will have players take on the role of a mage fighting to pull back humanity from the brink of extinction.

"We have been tirelessly working on the game, funded largely by our own savings, for quite some time now and would love to see our Kickstarter succeed so that we can finish and bring it to market soon." Mautner says on the site.

Emotiv's EPOC headset controller uses a set of 14 sensors plus two references to tune into electric signals produced by the brain to detect the user's thoughts, feelings and expressions in real time.

Vice President for Emotiv Kim Du says that the partnership will usher in a new generation of gaming.

"Son of Nor's game play integration with the Emotiv EPOC takes gaming to the next level," Du says on the site. "The Emotiv EPOC is a high resolution, neuro-signal acquisition and processing wireless neuroheadset that allows users to experience the fantasy of having supernatural powers and controlling the world with your mind.

Those who pledge $300 to the developer's Kickstarter campaign will get a EPOC device plus a digital edition of Son of Nor and $530 comes with a physical copy of the game along with the mind reading headset.

StillAlive plans on releasing Son of Nor in the second quarter for 2014 for PC, Mac and Linux.

This isn't the first time mind controlled controllers have been seen as the potential future of gaming. California based company NeuroSky offers the PC and Mac compatible MindWave headset that comes bundled with games built for it. March this year, DigiPen graduate Lat Ware started his own Kickstarter campaign for Throw Trucks With Your Mind, a game compatible with NeuroSky's device.
