Mass Effect 4 Could Arrive With Multiple Spin-Offs

Mass Effect 3 might have been the end of the journey for Commander Shepard, but that doesn’t mean that it will also be the end of the line for the Mass Effect franchise. BioWare has reportedly come out of the darkness with some highly anticipated details about the next Mass Effect title in works.

BioWare executive producer Casey Hudson, who recently gave an interview to The Official Xbox Magazine, discussed the possible candidates for the lead role in the next Mass Effect. As it turns out, it seems like Garrus the Turian could be one of the selections.

"There's so much that could be told in the Mass Effect universe," Hudson tells OXM. "It'd be cool to do something completely unrelated to the larger storyline, like a story about a private investigator on the Citadel. Or maybe something detailing Garrus' time in C-Sec."

Mass Effect level designer Dusty Everman also backed Garrus to be the next big character in the upcoming Mass Effect. He tells the magazine: “While being one of Shepard's most loyal friends, Garrus has also had some of the most driven personal goals. He's a hero in his own right, as Archangel and beyond. Who wouldn't want to see the further adventures of the bold, charming Garrus Valkarian (there's a lot of guns out there to calibrate)."

Preston Watamaniuk, lead designer for Mass Effect 2, on the other hand, expects "a game centered on brutal Krogan combat with more of a melee focus could be pretty exciting." Lead writer Mac Walters went a bit ahead when he named characters like “Aria, the Illusive Man, Kai Leng” and even any other henchman (related to the game), and went on to add that “most of them could have successful spin-offs of their own in some fashion.”

Finally, producer Mike Gamble also made his thoughts clear and felt that there's more to be told about Javik (the only known survivor of the ancient Prothean race). Gamble tells the magazine: “Following the story of Javik a little bit more would be pretty cool. As the last remaining member of a lost race, I think that we could tell a lot of stories about his adventures in the Milky Way, and coming to terms with his place in the new Galaxy.”

The next Mass Effect title from BioWare has yet to get any official confirmation or details.
