Twisted Metal Creator Goes Indie With Autoduel Kickstarter

If there's one man who knows more about blowing up cars than anyone else, it's David Jaffe. That's why indie developer Pixelbionic has brought on the creator of Twisted Metal himself to serve as a Creative Advisor on the company's advisory board for the upcoming Autoduel.

As the name suggests, Autoduel will take a page from the Twisted Metal playbook and allow players to ride around a post-apocalyptic landscape in weaponized vehicles. Autoduel will be an online multiplayer PC game, and there will be at least twenty cars to choose from, split up between the three factions: the Ratters, the Scavengers, and the Techies. Cars can be upgraded and "extensively" customized, making it even easier to distinguish friends from foes on the battlefield.

According to the developer's website, "Autoduel is a online multiplayer PC game which pays homage to epic car combat games of the past such as Interstate '76 and Twisted Metal - while offering gamers the chance to see what can be accomplished when a talented team of experienced developers is unleashed on modern hardware with cutting-edge graphics and online multiplayer capabilities. The game combines the high-octane thrills and spills of team-based car combat with RPG-influenced persistence and progression gameplay."

That talented team includes Maxx Kaufman, a founding member of InXile Entertainment, and Scot Kramarich, Lead Designer of Interstate '82 and Designer on Interstate '76, as well as a host of others.

"Autoduel pairs the vision of the best talent in the industry with the enthusiasm and support of gamers, a combination we are confident will set the bar for what can be achieved in a new PC vehicular combat game," says Pixelbionic co-founder and President Mike Arkin, a producer and studio head with over 150 published titles to his name. With the impressive pedigree behind the game, Autoduel could be the next vehicular combat title to look out for, so keep your eyes peeled for screens and videos in the near future.

Autoduel will be Pixelbionic's first game, and as is the trend, "funding will be crowdsourced, with a Kickstarter campaign launching soon." Although a Kickstarter campaign is in the works, no official date has been set for when the campaign will begin.
