Studio Ghilbi News: Hayao Miyazaki Is Working on New Anime Feature Film

Famed animator Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghilbi has both bad news and good news to the anime world. The good news is, he's currently working on a new project, but the bad news, he's off to retire.

According to reports, the 75-year-old anime legend is currently working on a CG short for the Ghilbi Museum in Tokyo, but plans are underway to make it into a full length feature film. Titled "Kemushi no Boro" (Boro the Caterpillar), the planned CG short run for only 10 minutes, but was completed for three years.

The reason why the supposed CG short was planned to be made as a full-length feature film was that the result so far did not satisfy the veteran animator. But Miyazaki projected that if plans to continue with the full-length feature film, it would take around five years before he completes it and he would be 80 years old by then, the Anime News Network reported.

It can be recalled, that this is actually not the first time that Ghilbi's co-founder announced that he would be retiring from making animes. In fact, three years ago, he also announced that he would retire from making films.

For his new project, Miyazaki hopes that they would finish it by 2019, just a year ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Eager to finish the project on schedule, Miyazaki has started creating storyboards for the film even before the go signal from the studio has been given.

Some of the notable projects that Miyazaki has been part of some Ghilbi hit movies where he was the director include "Howl's Moving Castle", "Kiki's Delivery Service", and "Mei and the Baby Cat Bus", among others.

Miyazaki's role in this newest project would be his first experience working on a CG project, that's why many anime fanatics are excited on how it would turn out. After all, Miyazaki's known for his craftsmanship and dedication to his work
