Quicksilver Cast In X-Men: Days of Future Past [SURPRISE]

It's only been a few days since Joss Whedon made the official announcement that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, the children of Magneto, would be appearing in Marvel Studios' The Avengers 2. However, fans of Magneto's speedy son won't have to wait until 2015 to get their fix of the character, as director Bryan Singer just made a surprise announcement that the character will be appearing in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Singer took to Twitter to deliver the news, announcing "Before he was an #Avenger, he was just a REALLY fast kid."

Taking on the role of Quicksilver will be Evan Peters, who is best known for his work on American Horror Story. Judging by the time-travel theme of the movie, Peters' Quicksilver will likely based on events far ahead of X-Men: First Class, as Magneto was a youngster himself during the events of that film.

The biological son of Magneto, Quicksilver was raised as Pietro Maximoff alongside his twin sister Wanda, better known as the Scarlet Witch. In comics, the duo have spent time as part of Magneto's Brotherhood of Evil Mutants before joining Captain America and the Avengers later on.

The addition of Evan Peters as Quicksilver could be a major game-changer in the world of Marvel films. While Columbia helms the Spider-Man flicks, Fox handles the X-Men films, and Marvel Studios does all-things Avengers and the three franchises have managed to use their own unique set of characters until now. Is this a sign of Fox trying to gain some leverage over Joss Whedon and the expansive Marvel Studios, or could the two studios be collaborating to allow for characters to cross over from one film to the next?

We'll have to wait and see, though comic fanatics are likely pining for the latter.
