UFC News And Updates: Conor McGregor Potential Fights For 2017

With his history defining victory at UFC 205, the sky is the limit for Conor McGregor. Holding two titles in two different weight classes gives the champion a litany of fighters to choose from. Let's take a look at some of his options for 2017:

Jose Aldo - former pound per pound king waiting to avenge his loss. The former featherweight champion has been campaigning for a fight with Conor McGregor ever since his 13 second knockout loss at the hands of the Irishman. Since then, Jose Aldo has come out of an impressive performance over Frankie Edgar to capture the Interim Featherweight Title. The problem lies with Conor Mcgregor's decision to defend his featherweight title. In his three fights since, Conor McGregor has not defended the title. It seems that Conor McGregor is reluctant to defend the title as he sees no other worthy opponent in that division.

Nick Diaz - stockton bad boy. The first fighter to defeat Conor McGregor in the UFC, a 3rd fight of their epic trilogy for the lightweight title is sure to bring fireworks for both fighters.

Khabib Nurmagomedov - grappling king. Fresh off his victory over Micheal Johnson, Khabib Nurmagomedov has been a title contender for several years. Displaying brutal grappling and takedown skills, stylisticaly his skillset will pose the most threat for Conor who is primarily a stand up fighter. Khabib Nurmagomedov has made it clear that he wants a fight with Conor McGregor during his post fight interview, telling the Irish fans that he wants to fight "their chicken." Injury problems are what may cause him this fight as he has been known to cancel fights at the last minute. Conor McGregor has declared him the "pull-out king" and seems unwilling to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov until he proves that he can fight on a consistent basis.

Tyron Woodley - current welterweight champion. In his post fight interview at UFC 205, Conor McGregor was furiously looking for his second title belt since he was only given one of two. It was later revealed that the second belt that was handed to him was in fact Tyron Woodley's, the welterweight champion. When Conor Mcgregor was asked of the second belt, he said that it may be a sign of things to come. Conor McGregor has competed at welterweight in his two fights with Nick Diaz and has expressed his desire of capturing titles beyond the lightweight division. Woodley on the other hand has expressed apprehension about Conor McGregor facing a much bigger fighter despite having no problems signing up for the fight.

Georges St. Pierre - greatest welterweight of all time. The most unlikely of options but potentially the most financially successful a fight with Georges St. Pierre the greatest welterweight of all time would surely break all UFC PPV records. Georges St. Pierre coming out of retirement and contract disputes with the UFC are what prevent this fight from happening.
