NBA News And Updates: Chris Paul Edges LeBron James For Early Favorite To Win The MVP Award

With the first ten games of the 2016-2017 NBA Season in the record books, the Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James and the Los Angeles Clippers' Chris Paul are leading the pack for this year's Most Valuable Player Award.

With a 9-1 record, at 31-years-old, LeBron James Is making a strong case to capture his fifth MVP award in his 14-year NBA career. It may not be his old MVP numbers but still, averaging 23.4 points, 8.9 rebounds and 9.6 assists a game is still a 'beast' compared to other players in the NBA.

More so, LeBron James is making his teammates this year better and it is evident with his (currently) career-high average in assists with 9.6 per game. One of the main beneficiary of those assists would be Kevin Love who is getting back his Minnesota Timberwolves form after gaining confidence after winning the NBA championship last June.

Kevin Love has improved numbers with 20.4 points, 10.3 rebounds and he nails 1.4 three-point shots a game while shooting 86% of his free throws. On the other hand, Kyrie Irving seemed to have the green light to shoot the basketball and it resulted to 23.9 points per game. As a bonus, Channing Frye has come out as the main offensive weapon from the bench with 12.8 points per game.

At 10-1, the Los Angeles Clippers are enjoying their best start in franchise history with Chris Paul leading the pack with 19.2 points, 8.5 assists, 5.5 rebounds, 2.9 steals and draining 2.4 three-point baskets per game.

Furthermore, Chris Paul has all his guns in his arsenal healthy for battle. Blake Griffin is helping Chris Paul solidify his MVP bid with 20.2 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. As we all know, Chris Paul lost to Kobe Bryant for the MVP plum years ago but right now, his story of carrying the Los Angeles Clippers franchise to the best record in the East (if this keeps up) will simple beat LeBron James story and MVP voters will surely note this. Besides, this could be Chris Paul's last chance to win it under a Los Angeles Clippers uniform.
