FX’s 'Y: The Last Man' Finds Its Showrunner in Michael Green

FX's "Y: The Last Man" has found a showrunner in Michael Green. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Green will also co-write the series with Brian K. Vaughn, writer of the same-name comic on which the new television series is based. The series is currently in the early stages of development.

The upcoming "American Gods" television adaptation and the new Wolverine movie "Logan" are among Green's writing-for-screen credits. He has, in addition, written for DC Comics, most famously on "Superman/Batman" and "Supergirl" titles. Vaughn, meanwhile, is famous for his writing work on the classic television series "Lost", and most recently, "Under the Dome".

"Y: The Last Man" is a 60-issue comic written by Vaughn and follows a young man named Yorick and a Capuchin monkey named Ampersand, the two remaining male mammals in a dystopic future in which the whole male mammal population is wiped out off of the phase of the earth. The story gives a glimpse of how society drastically shifts where species, save for Yorick and Ampersand, bearing the Y-chromosome, had died.

The comic book listed plenty of notable fans, including director Joss Whedon ("The Avengers") and actor Zachary Levi ("Star Trek"), who had both previously expressed their interest in being involved. The new series will add to FX's lineup of noteworthy shows, including "Legion", a T.V. adaptation of the beloved Marvel comic starring Dan Stevens (of "Downton Abbey" fame), and "Taboo", the Ridley Scott-Tom Hardy period miniseries.
