Console Gaming News: Microsoft celebrated 15 fruitful years with Xbox

The American multinational technology company celebrated the 15th birthday of the popular video gaming brand, Xbox. The brand was first debuted on November 15, 2001 in the United States, with the launch of the original Xbox console. It was the first ever video game console offered by an American company after the Atari Jaguar stopped the sales in year 1996.

The Xbox became a member of the sixth generation of gaming consoles, with its' rivals Nintendo's Game Cube, Sega's Dreamscast and Sony's Playstation 2. With Xbox Live Launching the following year, it developed to be a hit right away. Successor consoles followed in the succeeding years, Xbox 360, was released in 2005 and has sold over 77.2 million consoles worldwide as of April 18, 2013. The successor to the Xbox 360 and Microsoft's newest console, Xbox One, was launched on May 21, 2013.

Microsoft shared a celebratory tweet as they marked their 15th anniversary with the brand.

The company also tweeted an animation containing some of remarkable statistical milestones from the video gaming brand throughout the years. The following are the noticeable data showed in the short animation clip:

  • Number of players: 219, 995, 903
  • Xbox Live friendships made: 4,233,891,482
  • Total multiplayer hours: 29,000,304,184
  • total gaming hours: 100,539,390,670
  • Hours on Xbox: 175,184,852,727
  • Achievements unlocked: 32,667,582,157
  • Gamerscore racked up: 572,605,554,587
  • Highest Gamerscore: 1,416,465

The video ended by saying thank you to the 15 years of best fans. Microsoft also encouraged people to share their unforgettable gaming memories by posting on their personal social media accounts by using the #15YearsOfXbox hashtag. The company is heavily aware that without the undying support of the fans and the passionate community there would not be where they are now.

There are also an in-game events and giveaways, Team Xbox Gaming with the Community and Livestreams to show the people Xbox love.

It has been a very long fifteen fruitful years, and the company reasonably celebrating this momentous breakthrough.
