UFC News: Dana White Has McGregor’s Back, Fires Back At Floyd Mayweather

We all know UFC featherweight and lightweight champion Conor "The Notorious" McGregor talks a lot of smack.  He backs that up every time he steps inside The Octagon.  He can pretty much handle himself whenever someone also talks smack to him.  So if you have your boss, UFC president Dana White, defending you from all the smack coming your way and having your back, you have a lot to be thankful for being that lucky.

Dana White defended Conor Mcgregor from Floyd "Money" Mayweather's statement ripping the UFC champion by firing back at Floyd Mayweather.

"Conor McGregor ... if he touches you, you go to sleep.  Floyd puts people to sleep too, with his fighting style, not with his hands.  You know how Floyd knocks people out? When they're not looking. Watch the Victor Ortiz fight."

For those of you not familiar with Victor Ortiz, Mayweather fought him back in 2011. The fight ended in controversy.  Floyd Mayweather knocked Victor Ortiz out in the fourth round of that fight while Ortiz, with his gloves down, was apologizing to Mayweather in the middle of the ring for head butting him earlier.

Later on Dana White praised his prized fighter.

"This kid's just getting started. This kid's 28 years old. Floyd can say what he wants about Conor, but even other fighters have to respect him. He's special. Floyd's never even come close to doing to other fighters what Conor does."

Incidentally, it was Floyd Mayweather who fired the first shot at Conor Mcgregor.  He told TMZ sports that comparisons between him and Conor Mcgregor is a "total disrespect".

"I didn't know Conor McGregor was undefeated. I didn't know that he had a reign in MMA for 20 years and undefeated and was world champion in five different weight classes. That's something I didn't know.  So I guess you guys are telling me something new if you say he's the Floyd Mayweather of the MMA.  If you say he's the Floyd Mayweather of the MMA, I'm trying to find out have you ever made $300 million in one night? Have you ever made $100 million in one night? Have you ever made $70 million in one night. So as far as saying he's the Floyd Mayweather of MMA, it's OK to say it, but it's not true."

He then added, "I think it's that time for Conor McGregor to go out there and do what he do. But never compare Conor McGregor to me. It's a total disrespect. Once again, I'm an elephant. An elephant don't beef with ants. Elephant is so large he don't even see ants."

Floyd Mayweather retired from boxing last year with a 49-0 record.  Conor McGregor on the other hand just recently made UFC history by knocking out Eddie Alvarez in the 2nd round.  He became the first fighter to hold two titles in two weight classes (featherweight and lightweight) simultaneously.
