Itagaki Says Devil's Third is 'going along really well'

Originally announced in 2010, Devil's Third was supposed to be the first game from Tomonobu Itagaki's Valhalla Game Studios following his resignation from Tecmo after the 2008 release of Ninja Gaiden II

Not much has been said about the title in quite a while and in this week's issue of Famitsu magazine(with translation through Polygon), Itagaki says that the project is "going along really well."

"We're continuing to expand on and deepen the gameplay," says Itagaki of the game's development. "The game itself is pretty well along in development. I'm building upon the context I've created up to now to provide gameplay that will really surprise people. I'm not sure that there's really a game like this on consoles, and I'd like fans to know that I'm definitely building this up Itagaki style"

Though Devil's Third was set to be published by THQ before it shut its doors, Itagaki is currently in negotiations with a few publishers that weren't specified.

"We're discussing things with publishers," Itagaki tells the magazine.

Outside of being a third-person shooter with a robust melee fighting engine and online play, details on the title has been sparse. According to Itagaki, the lack of information on Devi's Third has been intentional and compared it to war.

"It's like we're continuing to go along under the surface, waiting for the right timing to launch our missiles," says Itagaki. "Besides, if we revealed where we were hiding under the surface, it wouldn't be much of a war, would it?"

The short interview also mentioned that Devil's Third isn't going to be at this year's E3 in Los Angeles.

Itagaki left Tecmo following a few controversies with the company. He attempted to sue the Dead or Alive publisher after alleging that the company withheld bonuses promised for past works. In 2006, an unknown former female employee filed a sexual harassment suit against him. The court would eventual find Itagaki innocent of the charges.
