After the Golden State Warriors game on Saturday against the Milwaukee Bucks, All-Star forward Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors was not at all pleased when the Milwaukee Bucks diagrammed a play that called for Giannis Antetokounnmpo to attack Draymond Green during the final seconds of the game, which the Golden State Warriors won 124-121.
When asked what he thought about that play, Draymond Green said, "Definitely. I think that's disrespectful to me. I take that as disrespect. Don't go at me for game. And of course I'll say that, and next game they'll get game or something, but whatever."
The Milwaukee Bucks rallied from a 14 point deficit in the fourth quarter and came within 2 points with 10.1 seconds remaining. Milwaukee had the ball on the sidelines with guard Tony Snell, recently acquired from the Chicago Bulls in a trade for former rookie of the year awardee Michael Carter-Williams, inbounding the ball. Tony Snell passed the ball to Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Greek Freak was being guarded by Draymond Green. Before Giannis Antetokounmpo was able to catch the ball, Draymond Green reached over the top and slapped the ball away. No foul was called and Klay Thompson was able to recover the ball.
The Milwaukee Bucks immediately fouled Klay Thompson to stop the clock. Shooting 96.3% from the free throw line this season, Klay Thompson made both foul shots and gave the Golden State Warriors a 4-point with 8 seconds left in the game.
That proved to be enough as the Golden State Warriors held on for their seventh win in a row. Feeling as if the Milwaukee Bucks disrespected him by targeting him, Draymond Green made sure to make them pay by making that crucial defensive stop.
"I already knew what play they were running," Draymond Green said. "They have two plays that they run in situations like that. Once Giannis was down on the block, I already knew what they were running, so I was just waiting on them to pass the ball in. I wanted to make it tough and make Tony Snell think about it. I knew once he thought about it that he would throw the lob pass. Then I just went after the ball."
The two players were already going at it during that play, fighting for positions. Given Draymond Green's reputation with the officials, he was lucky that no over-the-back foul was called.
"Nah, because I was on the side of him," Green said. "If they were going to call it, there really isn't nothing I can do about it. It's one thing if we're down one. I'm going after that ball if we're up two because No. 1, he got to make two free throws, and we get the last shot. So, yeah, you're going to have to make those two free throws. I'm going after that ball."
