Sony Xperia Ear Release Date, News & Update: Wearable Voice Assistant Will Be Available For $200; To Compete With Moto Hint?

The Sony Xperia Ear was first released in Japan last Friday and it's making way in the United States on December 13. The new device from Sony will be priced $199.99 with accredited retailers.

The Sony Xperia Ear, Sony's own version of a personal assistant, was first announced during the Mobile World Congress back in February. The concept device was first released in Japan last November 18 and it ready to conquer U.S. this December.

Sony Xperia Ear tagged as "Your Personal Assistant" is an answer to other devices' personal assistant like Google assistant. But, Sony Xperia Ear is a wearable device, unlike the Apple's Siri. Itt is a built-in software in a smartphone.

On Sony's website, Sony Xperia Ear brags that it can send and receive messages, check user's schedule, search, and navigate without using user's smartphone. The device can be used like owners are having a normal conversation with a friend. All they have to do is ask and the answers will be on their ears.

The Sony Xperia Ear is durable with its IPX2 water protection. It is also lightweight that users will not notice that they are already wearing it.  Users will not need to worry about the background noise since it has voice optimization and background noise reduction feature.

According to Android Central, Sony Xperia Ear has a built-in accelerometer, gyroscope, and proximity sensors that users do not need to power on the device. It also has a feature of recognizing user's head gesture command like nodding to confirm.

In addition, Sony Xperia Ear sports a 65 mAh battery allowing users of 4 hours talk time and 80 hours of standby. It is also NFC capable and features Bluetooth 4.1 that is compatible with any smartphone that runs on Android 4.4 with Xperia Ear app installed.

Meanwhile, Sony Xperia Ear is gaining good reviews from users who have tried it. However, the features are somewhat similar to Motorola's Moto Hint making it not unique in the market.  Sony Xperia Ear will be available on Amazon starting December 13. Retailers such as Fry's and B&H will also sell the device priced at $199.99.
