iPhone 8 Release Date, Specs, Features, News & Update: OLED Panels in Supplier Shortage Riddle; Major Design Overhaul Putting Pressure on Apple?

Apple iPhone 8 will be released late next year but the hype is already on. Fans are already curious as to what Apple will offer in 2017 as it would be the 10th anniversary of the iPhone. An earlier statement by a Sharp executive suggested an OLED Display. However, a recent Bloomberg report suggests something different altogether.

The Bloomberg report states that there is a shortage of suppliers to meet the Cupertino tech giant's demand for iPhone 8 OLED panels. Four of the primary suppliers won't have the production capacities to manufacture the Apple iPhone 8 screens.

This could be a big problem for Apple. Even though Apple has tied up with Samsung for the iPhone 8 display panels, it won't be able to successfully meet the demand.

"Apple shipped about 75 million iPhones in the 2015 holiday quarter, and some analysts estimate that as many as 90 million could be sold in the last three months of 2017," the report states. Apple has tremendous pressure on its shoulder as it is aiming for a complete design overhaul for the iPhone 8 for the flagship's 10th anniversary. The Apple iPhone 8 is expected to be released in two screen sizes, 5-inch and 5.8-inch.

Noted KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has provided a solution of sorts, stating that Apple may go for the OLED panel for one of the variants and stick with the LCD Display for the other in order to combat the production shortage, writes The Indian Express. IHS Markit supply chain analyst Dan Panzica has said that the difficulty of producing OLED panels together with Apple's stringent quality requirements may result in supply shortage. Meanwhile, reports suggest that Apple is looking at an edge-to-edge display or bezel-less design.

Due to an all-glass design for the Apple iPhone 8 2017, Apple is looking to drop the aluminum metal casing. Biel and Lens is said to be developing the glass backs for the iPhone 8. Stay tuned to GamenGuide for more iPhone 8 news and updates!
