Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag sees the return of Aveline: Bonus content detailed

The next Assassin’s Creed title, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, is fast incoming and Ubisoft has now added to the entire festivity of the event by announcing that there will be added bonus missions within the game.

Ubisoft stated that the Black Flag will also see the return of Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation’s Aveline. Aveline will be featured in as many as three bonus missions that will arrive exclusively for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

Game director Ashraf Ismail was recently in an interview with Joystiq where he stated that missions will continue telling Aveline’s story after the conclusion of Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation (for PS Vita), and also bringing up the role of Animus to make all this possible.

For those who are not sure as to who Aveline is or what was her role in Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation (set between 1765 and 1777), Aveline de Grandpre was a female African-French assassin during the end of the French and Indian War in 18th century New Orleans.

Aveline is the first female protagonist in the series and Liberation featured Aveline’s story running parallel to that of Connor’s. And although the game ended up receiving a mixed critical and commercial reception, Ubisoft made sure that it wants to explore the character of Aveline even more with her entry in Black Flag.

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag tells the story of Edward Kenway, a British pirate and member of the Assassin Order. Edward is the father of Haytham Kenway, and grandfather of Ratonhnhake:ton (Connor), the two playable characters of Assassin's Creed 3.

“Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag begins in 1715, when pirates established a lawless republic in the Caribbean and ruled the land and seas. These outlaws paralyzed navies, halted international trade, and plundered vast fortunes. They threatened the power structures that ruled Europe, inspired the imaginations of millions, and left a legacy that still endures,” the official page states.

“The fullest Assassin’s Creed world ever created. Stand among legendary pirates such as Blackbeard, Calico Jack and Benjamin Hornigold, as you establish a lawless republic in the Bahamas and relive the truly explosive events that defined the Golden Age of Pirates. From Kingston to Nassau, explore 50 unique locations where you can live the life of a pirate. Captain and customize your own ship, search for lost treasure, hunt rare animals and loot underwater shipwrecks.”

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is set for an Oct. 29 release in North America for PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii, and is planned for an end of the year release for Xbox One and PS4.
