Saints Row official engine tools in the pipeline

Deep Silver has always shown the mod-community love with Dead Island as an example and it looks like the recently acquired Saints Row series may do the same.

Studio Director of Programming at Volition Jeff Thompson is working with modders featuring the Saints Row: The Third engine

According to popular mod blog IdolNinja, Thompson plans on putting together a package that'll include documentation, file formats, tools and more on the engine that powered the 2011 game alongside "working closely" with IdolNinja and other modders over the coming months. According to the blog, there are also plans to create tools for Saints Row 2 as a "test run" for a potential release of mods for Saints Row 4.

"In simple terms, the modding community will finally be able to create and offer new clothing, new vehicles, new guns, new npcs[Non playable characters], new missions and even new world geometry which will greatly extend the life of the series and enhance the Saints Row games in ways we never dared to dream of," read the blog.

IdoleNinja hopes that Thompson will have something to send soon though it's not known if it'll be the Volition mod tools or the first steps in making everything come into fruition.

Saints Row: The Third was the last game in the critically acclaimed open world game released under THQ before closing it's doors earlier this year. It was also announced around that time that Dead Island and Catherine developer Deep Silver(through Koch Media) had purchased Volition along with the Saints Row and Metro franchise.

Earlier this month Deep Silver announced pre-order bonuses for Saints Row 4 that included the morbidly named Super Dangerous Wub Wub Edition. The Super Dangerous Wub Wub Edition features a 12 inch Dubstep Gun replica, a doomsday button, Johnny Gat Memorial Statue along with bonuses included within the Saints Row 4 Commander in Chief Edition.

"The ultra-high quality weapon replica packs a party with a bitchin' design, sweet tunes directly from the in-game Dub Step Gun and a laser sight. Make no mistake, it's a time to get down," the press release said.

Deep Silver will release Saints Row 4 Aug. 20 for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC.
