Blizzard is fully commited to bring updates and more to Overwatch players as recent leaks show a new event and mode. A Christmas event and an arena mode could be coming to the popular multiplayer competitive first person shooter.
Recently discovered files from Overwatch may lead to new features added to the game. According to Reddit user Venxa, the files include clips for new hero interactions as well as a Christmas jingle which may signal a holiday themed event. Blizzard has been known to host holiday themed events in their games, most notably on Ovewatch celebrating a Halloween event last month.
An arena mode may also be in the works if the discovered sound files indicate so. New sound files for the announcer for Overwatch was discovered with lines saying "Now entering the arena" and "Gladiator." Another sound clip was also discovered that Venxa suggests could be the loading muisic for the new arena mode.
Blizzard, the company behind the hit series like, Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo and now Overwatch is no stranger to supporting their games well beyond their release, sometimes even decades. It's a method that few gaming studios apply, with studios usually releasing regular sequels to their hit sequels rather than improving current and existing games. Blizzard on the other hand, has maintained success in their games by constantly improving their games for years to come. It's a method that has gained them legions of devoted fans everywhere and there's no reason to think of Blizzard changing their ways.
Most notably Overwatch, their most recent hit, has received multiple updates including new maps, events, two characters, ability changes and nerfs. Reports also indicated that Blizzard is planning to add an substantial expansion similar to Diablo 3's Reaper of Souls. The expansion may be used to flesh out Overwatch's lore which the game somewhat lacks.
It's no surprise that these newly discovered files could indicate to something more for the game. For fans of Overwatch, this is good news regardless if the reports are true or not.
