XCOM: Enemy Unknown incoming for iOS on June 20

2K and Fireaxis Games have announced that the companies’ highly acclaimed strategy title XCOM: Enemy Unknown will be arriving on a number of iOS devices including the likes of iPhone, iTouch and iPad devices.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown’s iOS version is said to include all of the content from the PC and console version that we are so used to, alongside the expected support for GameCenter for achievements and iCloud for saving the player’s progress across a range of iOS devices.

The game’s multiplayer mode, however, will not be playable at launch but will become available at a later date at no additional charge. The app will be available for $19.99/£13.99/€17.99 via iTunes App Store, and although the price might sound a bit high, our guess is that it’s justified owing to the game’s development over the past few months.

The supported devices for the app include the iPad 2 and up (including the Mini), iPhone 4S and higher, and iPod Touch 5th Gen. however, judging the game’s commanding visuals, we would expect fans to go for the iPad version of the game, although it will look equally cool on smaller screens.

On a similar note, discussing about XCOM: Enemy Unknown for iOS, game designer Jake Solomon stated in an interview with IGN (back in April) that the game would only charge a premium upfront price and no additional in-app purchases.

"Oh God, please... no. I'm not sure I would be able to sleep at night. My food would taste like ashes in my mouth," Solomon stated at that time. He also promised that the game would be sold at a reasonable one-time price, with the team looking forward to see how the mobile market will react to the game’s launch.

"We're going to be offering XCOM at a premium, up-front, fair price. We're excited to be in this position and excited to see how people respond. We've proven [big console-quality experiences] can be recreated on mobile. Now we just have to see how the market responds... If it works, I'll love it. As a gamer. I love games like FTL, Mark of the Ninja, SimCity... I would play the shit out of them on mobile. I want to see that happen," the designed added.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is set in the near future at a time of an alien invasion of Earth, with the game placing the player in control of an influential multinational paramilitary organization called XCOM, tasked with defending the Earth.
