Nvidia Shield losses $50 when released June 27

Nvidia's Android powered Shield handheld console is cutting $50 from its previous retail price of $350 to $299 before a planned release on June 27.

The video card maker's portable gaming system is powered by Nvidia's quad-core Tegra 4 processor and features a 720p producing 5-inch multi-touch screen that can be plugged into a television through HDMI.  Input comes from dual analogue sticks, four trigger/bumper buttons, four face buttons, volume controls, an Nvidia button and standard Android back button.

Shield's biggest feature is the ability to stream games running on desktop or laptop PCs using Nvidia's graphics cards.

Pre-orders for Shield began in May and the company assured those who already made the financial leap will be charged the new price.

Though the Shield is available for preorder on Nvidia's site, retailers including GameStop and Micro Center will be carrying the device.

One of the first third-party peripheral supporters of the Shield is Nyko Technologies who believes the console could rank among the likes of Nintendo's 3DS and Sony's Playstation Vita.

"Shield is a unique piece of hardware; it's high performance gaming that meets portable entertainment," said director of marketing for Nyko Chris Arbogast in a press release. "We are excited to be working with Nvidia to provide Shield gamers unique ways to power, charge and enhance their devices.

Nyko displayed it's Shield Dock at E3 which doubles as a charger and alternative way to connect Nvidia's console to HDTVs. The Shield Dock is set to be released later this year.

Available this summer, travel and shell case will also be offered by the peripheral maker in making sure that player's device won't easily break. According to the release, each case is custom fitted to the exact specifications of the device and a detachable accessory bag include to hold the AC adapter and cables.

The last device offered from Nyko is the Power Kit that includes an AC and car adapter along with one extra-long Micro USB cable also set for release this summer.

Nyko also has its own Android controller available its Play Pad and Play Pad Pro.
