CONSOLES

Amazon marks November 27 for Xbox One release

Microsoft had told gamers they could expect its new console, the Xbox One in November, but weren't any more specific on a date besides that. Recently, Amazon has gone ahead and listed the console for a release on the 27th of that month. Is the company making an educated guess, or do they perhaps know something the rest of us don't?

This year's November 27th falls just a day before Thanksgiving, and the orgy shopping that begins just a few hours after most of us have stuffed our bellies full of turkey, Black Friday.

A recent rumor had placed the Xbox One's main competitor, Sony's PlayStation 4, for a sooner release of Novmber 13th. While the release so close to one of the biggest shopping days of the year certainly makes sense, it would be extrememly odd for Microsoft to debut their next-gen console two whole weeks after Sony does the same.

The stranger thing?

What's bound to be a sure big seller for both consoles, Call of Duty: Ghosts, releases on November 5th, considerably earlier than either console's rumored release date. Sure, it'll be available on current gen consoles, PS3 and Xbox 360, but I wouldn't count on the game making nearly as big of a splash on these consoles as much as the new systems.

Unfortunately, Amazon has made these sort of guesses before, once having the next Grand Theft Auto advertised for a March release, only to be proven wrong. This particular date for release is likely due to the closeness due to Black Friday. Likewise for Sony, but the source of that rumor comes from European retailer Media Markt, and Amazon apparently doesn't find any credibility with that particular rumor, choosing to list the PS4 for a December 31st release.

Whenever either console does release, gamers will be able to buy the Xbox One for $500, and the PlayStation 4 for $400.
