Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer mapping technology reduces lag: What you need to know

The gaming industry these days is based on anything that’s spelled multiplayer, and it’s wrong (for the moment) to expect anything other than that for the future of the industry. Accordingly, all the big publishing names that are set to officially release their titles this fall are working more on the multiplayer aspect of their titles than anything else. And names like Infinity Ward and EA DICE are no different.

As far as multiplayer is concerned, the Call of Duty series’ multiplayer mode doesn’t really have that great a track record with a lot of lags and glitches making its way every year with the MP mode of the game. And while that’s not something to brag about, Infinity Ward has made it clear that it will work to keep all such complaints out of the upcoming Call of Duty: Ghosts with its new engine, especially after the Black Ops 2 multiplayer debacle.

Only recently, a YouTube user called Drift0r spoke to executive producer Mark Rubin about the kinds of improvements in the multiplayer mode and to its in-game lag compensation that we might get to see as soon as the game is made final for retail.

On the topic, Rubin stated that the coding for lag compensation for Ghosts will be similar to previous Call of Duty. However, the company is still working on it to make it even better by tweaking it. He also went on to mention that while there won’t be any changes made to the core mechanics, fans can at least expect changes in the match making properties as it will be different from its predecessors.

“For one thing, matchmaking code will be tweaked so that all players can have a better connection. Players will be connected to hosts who are geographical closer, but to make up for the low ping that often results (since the routing doesn’t always get you the closest physical position), a host with better routing will be able to help you in having a better connection,” the report states as scribed by Gamingbolt.

“However, it’s a hit or miss approach since not all ISPs will give the same effect. To that end, Ghosts will ensure through a new mapping technique that you’re always synced to the best host with the best connection possible. It’s not perfect, but it will help alleviate many of the issues present in Black Ops 2.”

Call of Duty: Ghosts is currently set for a Nov. 5 release on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 and PC. Check out the interview below
