John McEnroe Encourages Novak Djokovic, Young Stars to Attack Andy Murray at No.1

Tennis legend John McEnroe lauds what Andy Murray has achieved this year, especially after ending the season as the world's no.1 men's singles player on the ATP world tour.

On the other hand, the American also encourages up-and-coming netters and even perennial contenders like Novak Djokovic to take the challenge of chasing the top-ranked Briton head on.

McEnroe, who has become a full-time tennis analyst following his glorious tennis career, thinks Murray will exhaust everything in his disposal to keep the world's no.1 ranking next season.

''(Andy) Murray is an amazing athlete. He's going to try to take advantage of this time because it's limited, we all know that,'' McEnroe told BBC Sports.

After winning as much as nine tournaments last year, Murray braces for a testy 2017 season with so many up-and-coming players looking to attack him from the get-go. Then, there's Djokovic who is expected to be hungry again for championships after a relatively disappointing season.

Via Tennis World USA:

"Murray enjoyed success in the 2016 season as he made it all the way at nine events - Rome, Queens, Wimbledon, the Olympic Games, Beijing, Shanghai, Vienna, Pairs and the World Tour Finals. He got on top of the rankings for the first in his career this season as well."

The upcoming 2017 ATP season will be a pivotal year for the four members of the fabled Big 4 as much as their respective legacy is concerned.

For Murray, another dominant season would usher a new era in tennis following the Joker's 4-to-5 years of reign as the sport's top player. Djokovic, meanwhile, needs to put up a good year altogether if he ever desires to chase the Grand Slam haul set by Roger Federer.

Nadal will be trying to make his final push towards capturing the top spot on the ATP World ranking, and more importantly, capture that elusive 10th title at the French Open. As for Federer, another Grand Slam title - probably at Wimbledon - will serve as a sweet ending to his illustrious tennis career.
