Battlefield 4 Second Assault DLC will offer four BF3 maps

Battlefield 4 is easily one of the hottest prospects of the current year later down the line, and already DICE is making sure that when the game arrives it will also have all its DLCs ready for release. And accordingly, DICE has already revealed details about the second Battlefield 4 DLC – Second Assault.

The Second Assault DLC, announced back at Microsoft's E3 2013 press conference, is set to feature as many as four "fan-favorite" Battlefield 3 maps that have been remade to utilize Battlefield 4's newest Frostbite 3 engine.

“Battlefield 4 Second Assault will be available post launch first for Xbox One consumers. This Premium expansion pack will feature four of the most fan-favorite maps from Battlefield 3, redesigned to take advantage of our advanced Frostbite 3 engine and enhanced to include new multiplayer features from Battlefield 4,” the official page states.

While there’s not much to be said about the other contents of the DLC, the DLC has also been mentioned in a Reddit thread where 4 gameplay designer Alan Kertz said “Metro and Caspian are runaway favorites" in terms of popularity among fans.

However, this is not the first time that DICE has actually made a decision to include fan favorite maps of the previous game in a brand new game. The company did the same thing with Battlefield 3 when the game received a similar expansion in December 2011, Back to Karkand, which offered a remade version of four well-known Battlefield 2 maps – Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman, Wake Island 2014, and Sharqi Peninsula. These maps went on to utilize the Frostbite 2.0 engine.

Later, the Back to Karkand DLC was offered free to customers who preordered Battlefield 3.

As of now, the company has revealed that fans who preorder Battlefield 4 will get free access to the China Rising expansion pack at launch. The China Rising expansion, of course, adds four new maps, new vehicles, and new equipment.

“Immerse yourself in the glorious chaos of all-out war. New maps, more vehicles, weapons and destruction allow you to create your own path and play to your strengths. Absolutely nothing compares to the sheer scale and scope of Battlefield 4,” the official description for the game states.

Battlefield 4 is scheduled to hit PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 across North America on Oct. 29 and Europe on Nov. 1. The PS4 and Xbox One versions are expected sometime later.
