Beyond: Two Souls - Everything we know so far

Quantic Dream’s upcoming action adventure title Beyond: Two Souls is one of the games that'll grab spotlight this year. The game stars Ellen Page of Juno and Inception fame alongside Willem Dafoe, and is set for an arrival later this year.

The game is basically a psychological action thriller inspired by A-list Hollywood performances and takes the player on an exciting journey across the globe as you live the remarkable life of Jodie Holmes. The title was first announced by Quantic Dream CEO David Cage at Sony's press conference during the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2012.

Jodie is born with a connection to a mysterious entity with incredible powers, and in her 15 years of life, the player’s actions, as the official description states, “will determine Jodie's fate as she faces extraordinary challenges, danger, and heartwrenching loss on a journey to discover the truth of who she is. Beyond promises an emotionally-charged journey unlike any video game before.”

Beyond: Two Souls is set to offer players a dangerous and unpredictable world with the option to explore striking and diverse settings across the world in an epic journey through 15 years of a character's life.

The game did have an impressive entry into the industry with its notable Somalia scene playing out for everyone to witness what the game is set to bring when it’s ready for a final release. Producer Guillaume de Fondaumiere explained the reason as to why the company chose this certain scene to demo at the E3.

"We've chosen this scene because we think it's a very interesting to showcase how Jodie and Aidan can collaborate," he says. "It's also a scene that's interesting to showcase how the game plays, because it's always the same with the games that we're doing: everyone always wonders how [the game plays]," he stated.

The demo started off, as Videogamer writes, “with Jodie Holmes two-thirds of the way through the game, Beyond's mysterious protagonist who is now a military-trained CIA operative sent into the heart of war-torn Somalia to kill a warlord named Jamaal. The scenario itself is enough to start asking questions.”

“Why, for a game marketed as an emotional thriller, has the player suddenly been thrust into the centre of a war zone? Without context, the scene's inclusion in Beyond – let alone its use as a promotional demo – is unexpected, confusing and concerning, particularly given director David Cage's recent comments about video game violence and the industry's immaturity.”

Beyond: Two Souls, which will allow the players to control Jodie alongside an invisible entity via stunning action sequences and puzzles with unique controls, with Quantic’s cutting-edge tech making it one of the best-looking games ever seen on the PlayStation 3, is set for an Oct. 8 release exclusively for PS3.

The PS4 version of the game is also currently under development.
