Batman Arkham News and Updates: New Game In Development

With a hero as popular as Batman, placing his image on a toilet bowl and expecting it to sell like hotcakes is justifiable. Just recently, him participation alone in the move Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was enough for the movie to profit despite the overwhelmingly negative reviews. But that hasn't been the case for video games. Historically, Batman games were bad. It wasn't until Batman: Arkham Asylum was released in 2009 that saved the superhero's legacy.

Batman: Arkham Asylum was the Batman game that fans deserve. Batman: Arkham Asylum respected Batman's lore and produced a game that truly reflected the capped crusader. Rocksteady Studios, the developer behind the Batman: Arkham series were mostly credited for Batman's resurgence in video games praising the Batman they created as true to its comic roots and even standing up to some of the comic's best works. Rocksteady Studios however seems to have moved on from Batman with Batman: Arkham Knight as the last of the series. Their most recent game, Batman Arkham VR was only considered somewhat of a demo for the Playstation VR and not a complete game.

Nevertheless, as with the comics, Batman will always continue, even with in the Batman: Arkham series. According to a report, a new series of videos by WB Games Montreal, shows the studio expanding the DC universe in video games which could signal a new Batman game. Footage is shown of a new open world game in development where Batman was heavily featured. The inclusion of a Dualshock 4 in the footage suggests that the game is not Batman: Arkham Origins, to which WB Games developed but a new Batman game.

If proven true, this would line up with rumors suggesting WB Games Montreal is indeed working on a new Batman game along with new Suicide Squad game. However fans should be cautious as Batman: Arkham Origins had lower review scores than the Batman games developed by Rocksteady Studios. However, with Rocksteady's last Batman game, Batman: Arkham Knight a disappointment, WB Games Montreal has the golden opportunity of brining excitement back to the franchise. Only time can tell if WB Games Montreal can once again give fans a Batman game they deserve.
