Last year we witnessed something historic in the history of Academy Awards, when Leonardo DiCaprio won his first Oscar in the best actor category. Million heartbeats were skipped and million fans became teary eyed with Leo's winning, the celebrations were like never seen before.
However, this year's Oscar predictions are far away than any kind of anticipation, neither there is much hype about it. However, we saw some really good performances this year too. There can be tough competition between some of the top names in Hollywood.
Just a month before the nominations, here we bring to you this year's predictions, in the best actor category.
Frontrunner in the category are Denzel Washington - Fences, Casey Affleck - Manchester by the Sea, Ryan Gosling - La La Land, Joel Edgerton - Loving, Andrew Garfield - Silence. But this can be a two man race and that will be between Affleck and Washington.
Both performances are unique in their own ways and yet so outstanding. "Fences", which Denzel also directed is now seen with immense praise and heavy Oscar prognostication. Indeed, Washington won a Tony for the same role on Broadway, and the consensus seems to be that he is downright stunning in the film adaptation. If he wins an Oscar this time, he will be the only actor to get one for more than second time.
Ryan Gosling has turned out to be a terrific performer and "La La Land" is expected to be nominated for Best Picture. Though his chances of victory are slightly less when compared to the other two top names. Similar could be the fate of Joel Edgerton's just because of the same reason. However, the actor is likely to get nominated for sure.
Andrew Garfield is one talented performer we have, and Martin Scorsese's "Silence" could be one film that can earn some major nominations. It will be however quiet interesting to see the winner emerging especially when Tom Hanks "Sully", lies somewhere in the forgotten!
