NBA Rumors: Mario Chalmers Could Reunite With Lebron James In Cleveland

The Cleveland Cavaliers are still looking for a veteran back-up point guard for their All Star point guard Kyrie Irving.  Mario Chalmers is still a free agent and looking for a team to play for.  Sounds like a perfect match.  With Lebron James being a former teammate of Mario Chalmers with the Miami Heat, the two buddies could reunite in Cleveland.

According to a report from Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com, the Cleveland Cavaliers are looking at Mario Chalmers as an option in their dire need of a back-up point guard.  Joe Vardon also added that the Cleveland Cavaliers could sign Mario Chalmers in January if the defending champions couldn't complete a deal for a point guard.

Mario Chalmers, 30, last played with the Memphis Grizzlies during the 2015-2016 NBA season.  He is currently recovering from a torn Achilles tendon on his right foot.  He tore his Achilles on March 10 of this year during a game between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Boston Celtics.  The next day, on March 11, the Memphis Grizzlies waived Mario Chalmers.

So far this 2016-2017 NBA season, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been surviving with Kyrie Irving as their primary point guard.  Ever since the sudden retirement of veteran point guard Mo Williams and the departure of primary back-up point guard Matthew Dellavedova, who has since signed with the Milwaukee Bucks, the Cleveland Cavaliers are without a designated back-up point guard.

The Cleveland Cavaliers do have rookie point guard Kay Felder but has not been able to earn his minutes as a back-up point guard.   The Cleveland Cavaliers just couldn't get any productive minutes from the rookie.  Kay Felder has since been in and out of the rotation this season.

Mario Chalmers started his career with the Miami Heat.  The Minnesota Timberwolves selected Mario Chalmers out of the University of Kansas with the 34th overall pick in the second round of the 2008 NBA Draft.  He was later traded on draft night to the Miami Heat.  As a primary point guard for the Miami Heat, Mario Chalmers won two NBA titles in 2012 and 2103 during the "The Big Three Era" of LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh.
