Google's Nexus 4 Expiration Has Been Put Off With CyanogenMod 14.1 Nougat Nightly Image Release

For market analysts, two years is the average turnover rate for the majority of smartphones, which is just the same as the lock-in period for most contracts. Google and LG's Nexus 4 was launched in 2012 and it has passed beyond its due date but the reports of its demise have been hugely exaggerated for those who still have the unit working perfectly.

According to Slash Gear, a CyanogenMod 14.1 nightly image has been released, which brings the eccentric goodness and strength of Nougat to Nexus 4. CyanogenMod wasn't cooked with guarantee of stability, it could be that it's vulnerable to bugs and it might change every now and then, which is far from Android 7.0 Nougat's stable version for the Nexus 4.

However, it is not too bad for those who still own a Nexus 4 who wants some new scheme on their phone although there are still questions hanging whether running the CyanogenMod 14.1 on the phone would be worth the risk. As it came out that the Nexus 4 doesn't have the hardware that can support most of the features introduced in Android 7.0 as well as the forthcoming 7.1.

Additionally, Nexus 4's hardware may not be able to manage many of these features but for those who are keen on having the latest Android version, this could be the only way to do so. According to GSMArena, in contrast to Cyanogen OS, CyanogenMod development and its support for devices is totally a volunteer-based work of affection and eagerness for whenever the people behind it will encounter problems, they will most likely drop the project.

Codenamed Mako/Occam, the Nexus 4 was a smartphone co-developed by Google and LG Electronics, which runs the Android operating system. It was released‎ on ‎Nov. 13, 2012 and the fourth smartphone in the Google Nexus product family.
