Battlefield 4 Battlelog features, second screen details explained

Since offering the first look at gameplay courtesy of the now famous Fishing in Baku gameplay trailer, DICE's Battlefield 4 has already made into a lot of fans’ Christmas wishlists. While we are quite sure that the game, will arrive with a host of added features, we're still finding out what exactly they are. Now, more details are arriving related to the in-game Battlelog, and second screen gameplay options.

As reported, Battlefield 4's Battlelog is set to incorporate a second screen into play, allowing players to utilize a tablet as a separate dynamic mini-map during matches, or even use as a stat-maintaining social app while on the move.

Producer Oskar Gabrielson stated, as scripted by Polygon, that “the team wanted to use devices such as smartphones and tablets into the game's experience. Players can log onto Battlelog remotely to find out what friends are playing, scroll through loadouts and more. During play, a tablet or compatible device can also act as a mini-map where players can set attack points. Battlelog can also be used to select and join new servers.”

To be more precise, players can now use their mobile device to customize their respective loadouts, browse servers, and see the status of friends. Moreover, additional features include new regional leaderboards, allowing players to check out the best player in their local region. Players can also set up their own custom missions solely between friends, with DICE making sure that challenges are set in such way that it doesn’t ever feel monotonous.

DICE first introduced Battlelog alongside 2011's Battlefield 3. The social service was designed to keep track of players' activities and achievements earned within the game.

Additionally, it has also been reported that EA will not allow cross-generation saves for Battlefield 4, which is something similar to what the company does with FIFA series and its Ultimate Team Mode. When a fan asked on Twitter “if I play BF4 on 360 and then when the Xbox One comes does my rank stay the same? I want to clarify,” DICE responded: “No. Each platform is treated like a separate career, similar to how it works in Battlefield 3.”

Battlefield 4 is currently set for an October launch on the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, with versions for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 also arriving at a later date.
