PlayStation All-Stars goes mobile, hits iOS and Android devices as PlayStation All-Stars Island

While it seems Sony may have stopped support for its Smash Bros. contender, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale by no longer providing DLC, but the game is still showing signs of life. In fact, it's actually reaching new platforms via Android and iOS devices due to support from Coca Cola.

PlayStation All-Stars Island is the new title, developed by Zoink Games, a Swedish developer mostly known for smaller Wii titles. Island features LittleBigPlanet's Sackboy, Uncharted's Nathan Drake, inFamous' Cole MacGrath, and Kat from Gravity Rush. Now, if you think it's just a basic port of Battle Royale, prepare to be disappointed. It's actually little more than another endless running game with some PlayStation character skins, and a few variations. As far as variations go, some screen shots show Drake doing a little bit of climbing as opposed to simply running, but the mechanics seem to be the same. Essentially, if you've played Temple Run, than you've played All-Stars Island. The only real difference is the corporate tie-in.

"Players are tasked with collecting Coke Zero orbs," reads an official FAQ for the game, spotted by NeoGAF, "that are used to unlock special Coke Zero 'MAKE IT POSSIBLE' moves. There is one experience bar per mini game, per character and the player must fill all of the board to have all of the special moves. Players will be able to earn special Coke Zero moves within the game that 'make the impossible possible' e.g. Drake and Cole enter the LBP world."

Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank will also make an appearance, and the game will allow those with eligible bottles of Coca-Cola Zero to scan promotional QR codes. It's not unlike when Halo 4 had its own tie-in with Mountain Dew, just substituted for a different sugary drink, the green hued Mountain Dew traded in for Coke's classic brown delight. Yes, it's meant to sound disgusting. Ergo, the more soda you swig (or at least buy and scan, Coca Cola probably doesn't give two hum dings if you actually drink the stuff), then the more stuff you get. DLC will be brought to you by Captain Crunch and Chester Cheetah (sarcasm).

The game is a free download, and is out now via iTunes and Google Play.
