NBA Rumors And Updates: Knicks Starting To Regret Signing Of Noah

The New York Knicks have a serious problem in rebounding. And The signing of Joakim Noah, may be a big mistake.

The New York Knicks started the season with a newfound hope. They've just acquired former MVP Derrick Rose and a former Defensive Player of the Year in Joakim Noah. However, starting the season with an 8-9 record, and with the amount of talent the team has, it's clear that the New York Knicks are underachieving.

It seems that New York Knicks has some holes in their game. In their last game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, a glaring weakness in rebounding for the New York Knicks was evident.

The Thunder were simply dominating the offensive glass, getting 17 offensive rebounds. That's 17 extra possesions that the New York Knicks gave to the opposing team. Overall the Thunder won the rebound battle 53-40. Its been said the who controls the rebounds, controls the game. It's no wonder the Thunder won the game 112-103 over the New York Knicks. The rebounding issue can only be attributed to front court of the New York Knicks, but more specifically to Joakim Noah.

Rebounds may be a team game but it all starts with the frontcourt who has to be physical in boxing out the opposing to secure the rebounds. The frontcourt duo of Kritaps Porzingis and Joakmin Noah weren't enough to stop their counterparts in Enes Kanter and Steven Adams. The Thunder duo accounted for a combined 41 points and 20 rebounds including 10 offensive rebounds.

What's surprising is that the New York Knicks were once among the best rebounding teams just last season ago (7th in defensive rebounding and 10th overall). The difference has been the frontcourt. Last season, the Knicks had Robin Lopez to anchor the defense and the rebounds. This time however, it's Joakim Noah who has that responsibility and judging from the Thunder gamer, it looks like Joakm Noah is not up to the task.

The New York Knicks signed Joakim Noah to be the bruising and physical center the New Knicks needed. He was supposed to compliment Kritaps Porzingis' finesse and perimeter oriented game. But it looks like the combination isn't working.

Joakim Noah is signed to a 4 year $72 milion contract in the offseason. Some are already saying that the contract is a bust. Joakim Noah has yet to produce a productive season since his recovery from a series of injuries. But hether they like it or not, the New York Knicks is stuck with Joakim Noah for the long run.

It's still early in the season and a lot can change. But if Joakim Noah rediscovers his form when he was in Chicago and be become a menace on the court that he was, the New York Knicks may see their fortune turn for the better.
