Call of Duty: Ghosts on PC to offer ‘enhanced textures,’ and female soldiers

Infinity Ward’s upcoming Call of Duty: Ghosts is the next title in the long and popular Call of Duty series, and while we ponder about the kind of differences we might see with the game releasing on current and next generation consoles, it seems like the fans on PC might be set for some added visual goodies.

Speaking to Kotaku, executive producer Mark Rubin explained how the company will offer added benefits to the PC version of Ghosts, as far as in-game development is concerned. Rubin stated: “PC is taking a different tack from previous games [in the series,]." He added that with modern PCs now having their own “set of assets,” the game is “going to look better than any Call of Duty we've ever made on PC."

On the comparison between the versions of the game for new age consoles and PCs, Rubin stated: “They're actually using an even higher version in many cases than the next-gen consoles, from a texture standpoint."

Apart from this, Rubin also expects that there will be equality across versions of Call of Duty: Ghosts this year. When asked if the in-game multiplayer will differ significantly between PS3/360 and PS4/XboxOne versions, “he said they'd really only be distinguished from each other by graphics. Based on that standard, it seems like the PC may be the winner, as it is in so many multi-platform comparisons,” the report adds.

Additionally, Activision senior producer Yale Miller has offered some details on the female characters and customizations that will arrive with Ghosts. Speaking to VG247 in an interview, he stated: “Well I think it all started with the character customization stuff and it made sense, right?”

“There are female soldiers in combat. Why shouldn’t there be? It’s one of those – and I know it’s a story beat for this, but it’s like, it just makes sense. That’s the way it is. There are women in combat, so it’s kind of a no-brainer. Why shouldn’t they be? We get asked that question by girl gamers all the time, like, ‘When are you going to put a female character in?’ There should be.”

Answering why it took so long to add female characters, Miller stated: “Character customization is not as easy as, ‘Oh, we just did character customization.’ There’s a ton of engine and backend work to be done. If you think about it, you have the same texture in the game over and over again, if you had that and the game was all these walls made of the same texture.”

“You only need that texture once, right? But when you’ve got all these different textures, all these different models, it’s a whole lot of back end work that’s needed to be done.”

Call of Duty: Ghosts is currently scheduled for a Nov. 5 worldwide release.
