Star Wars Battlefront News And Update: Sequel Will Be Bigger, Will Feature Story Mode

With the resurgence of the Star Wars franchise, long time fans are once again ecstatic. Star Wars: The Force Awakens has completely restored the once iconic legacy to its former glory. And now Star Wars has spread in every form of media including games. The latest of the games was EA's Star Wars Battlefront which was released in 2015 to coincide the Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But with Star Wars Battlefront skipping this year, making room for EA's other big first shooter franchise in Battlefield 1, a 2017 release for Star Wars Battlefront 2 is possible.

EA CFO Blake Jorgensen have in fact confirmed that the next Battlefield game will not be released until 2018 or later. This confirms the earlier statements of Star Wars Battlefront 2 releasing in 2017.

The CFO also said that changes are to be made for Star Wars Battlefront 2. "We're looking at all of our games and asking, 'How might we provided additional opportunities for the player to engage?' The players want to engage deeply in the game," the executive said. He said that the team has heard the criticisms of the first game and will make the necessary adjustments on Star Wars Battlefront 2 and promises that Star Wars Battlefront 2 will be a "much bigger" sequel.

Most of the criticism for Star Wars Battlefront is directed on its lack of content. The first game was severely lacking in modes that should be present in a full priced multiplayer game. Star Wars Battlefront lacked a story mode, space battles and only included 4 playable planets and 6 movie characters. If Star Wars Battlefront 2 wishes to address the criticisms, then it might be a good idea to look into the past.

In 2005, Lucas Arts released the Star Wars Battlefront 2, the sequel to the original Battlefront. Star Wars Battlefront 2 was filled to the brim with content which includes new modes such as, hero assault, space battles and a narrative driven single player campaign. These modes are all absent in the most recent Star Wars Battlefront. It would be wise for EA to pattern their version of Star Wars Battlefront 2 with the 2005 version since the original games were considered among the best Star Wars games.

If EA CFO Blake Jorgensen is serious about his statements, then we should expect Star Wars Battlefront 2 to follow in the footsteps of its older brother. Star Wars Battlefront 2 could very well have the same modes of the 2005 game. That way fans can get the Star Wars game they deserve.
