Chrome 55 Is Defaulting to HTML5 Killing Adobe Flash and Now Rolling out to Mac, Linux & Windows

In the previous year, Google Chrome has been applying a multi-phase plan playing Adobe Flash down. Chrome 55 is taking the foremost step of defaulting to HTML5 on most sites, which is rolled out to Windows, Mac and Linux.

According to 9TO5Google, Chrome blocked Flash-based page analytics and some background essentials in September with its version Chrome 53. Chrome started rewriting embedded YouTube Flash players using HTML5 with the Chrome 54 version and these modifications improves security, faster load times and reduced power consumption.

According to Neuro Gadget, this month, Chrome 55 is taking the bigger and more user-facing measure of defaulting to HTML5 and the sites that only champion Flash are excluded and these are the top ten sites on the web for a year such as Facebook.com, YouTube.com, Yahoo.com, Live.com, VK.com, Yandex.ru, Twitch.tv, OK.ru, Amazon.com and Mail.ru. As for the other sites, users will be asked to enable Flash once visiting a site for the first time.

Apart from improved web experience in general for all users of Chrome 55, the goal is that it will compel all publishers to convert over so that the users don't need to take further steps. Apart from the common bug and security fixes, Chrome 55's addition of CSS automatic hyphenation permits the browser to hyphenate words when attempting to line-wrap, which will improve the visual stability of text blocks.

On Android, Chrome 55 will be rolling out a ‘downloads' feature to view pages offline as well as videos and images. The media controls will be displaying a button to indicate whether a file can be saved.

Another feature allows sites that sit on the homescreen automatic persistent storage, which inhibits automatic clearing. Chrome 55 for desktop is also rolling out now and the updates for Chrome OS and Chrome on Android will follow soon. The new Chrome 55 also features web Bluetooth, WebVR, performance enhancements such as reducing RAM consumption by 50 percent, Android apps and more features.
