'Shovel Knight' Latest News & Updates: The NES-Style Action Game Will Have Prequel To Launch In Spring 2017. Details Here!
At the 2016 Game Awards, Yacht Club Games announced "Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment" through a brief trailer, which is a follow-up to the 2014 indie hit that achieved critical acclaim and have won several awards for its retro-skewing style during its release in 2013. "Specter of Torment" is a prequel to the original "Shovel Knight."
According to the Verge, Yacht Club Games will be adding new abilities, enemies and bosses to "Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment" but the first "Shovel Knight" game's retro-inspired design will be retained. The prequel is set to launch in Spring 2017.
The developer also revealed that the "Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment" will feature the villainous Specter Knight rather than the little blue hero where a player will have to attempt to establish the Order of No Quarter, which is the evil party fighting against Shovel Knight in the original game. Additionally, Specter Knight has new moves such as wall jump and aerial jump.
According to Polygon, the "Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment" appears to preserve the trademark aesthetic of the original game. Recently, the Plague of Shadows released for Shovel Knight owners as a latest expansion and is now available to download for free. Moreover, Yacht Club Games plans to have another free campaign after Spector of Torment since there will be an addition to follow starring King Knight.
"Shovel Knight" is a 2D side-scrolling platform game developed and published by Yacht Club Games and designed by Sean Velasco. It was released on June 26, 2014 for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, OS X, Linux, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One and Amazon Fire.
"Shovel Knight" is inspired by gameplay and graphics of platformer games that were developed for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The game was set to launch in September 2013 and after few delays, the developer announced that the game will be launched finally in June 2014.
