The annual Geoff Keighley-produced event, The Game Awards 2016 has finally come to a close where 29 top publications chose the best games of the year. Microsoft Theater hosted the event in Los Angeles on Dec. 1.

According to Polygon, numerous games and studios received awards such as Blizzard's "Overwatch," which won the Game of the Year award, Best Multiplayer Game, Best Studio and Best Esports Game. In November, Trusted Reviews Awards 2016 also hailed "Overwatch" as a Game of the Year.

The nominated games for The Game Awards 2016 in the Game of the Year category are Bethesda's "DOOM," Playdead's "Inside," Respawn's "Titanfall 2," Naughty Dog's "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" and Blizzard's "Overwatch" that claimed the Game of the Year award. For Best Narrative award, Naughty Dog's "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" topped among four other nominees.

The Game Awards 2016 Best Art Direction category winner is Playdead's "Inside" while the Best Music/Sound Design winner is Bethesda's "DOOM." For Best Performance category winner, Nolan North as Nathan Drake of "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" won the crown.

The Games for Impact Award category winner in The Game Awards 2016 is Numinous Games' "That Dragon" while Inside's "Playdead" won the Best Independent Game award. The Best Mobile/Handheld Game award went to Niantic's "Pokemon Go."

The Game Awards 2016 Best VR Game category winner is Enhance Games' "Rez Infinite" and Bethesda's "DOOM" won the Best Action Game award. Arkane Studios' "Dishonored 2" won the Best Action/Adventure Game award.

The Best Role Playing Game award category winner in The Game Awards 2016 is CD Projekt RED's "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Blood and Wind" while Capcom's "Street Fighter V" won the Best Fighting Game award. The Best Family Game award went to Niantic's "Pokemon Go."

The Game Awards 2016 Best Strategy Game category winner is Firaxis Games/2K's "Civilization 6" and Microsoft Studios' "Forza Horizon 3" won the Best Sports/Racing Game award. Lastly, Blizzard's "Overwatch" won the Best Multiplayer Game award.

For the Fan's Choice categories in The Game Awards 2016, Coldzera - Marcelo David in SK Gaming, "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" won the Best Esports Player award while Cloud 9 won the Best Esports Team. The Best Esports Game winner is Blizzard's "Overwatch," Boogie2988 won the Trending Gamer award and Nintendo's "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" won the Most Anticipated Game award.
