Ubisoft's shot at GTA 5 – ‘Two months are enough to visit Los Santos'

2013 is indeed the year of open-world gaming with huge titles such as Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs on the cards and the massively anticipated Grand Theft Auto 5 already released. However, with all these titles arriving nearly at the same time, it’s quite natural that someone will take a dig at others to impose authority in the market. But Ubisoft’s approach seems like the most forward move yet.

Recently, in the wake of GTA 5’s successful critical reception, Ubisoft launched a new poster for Watch Dogs’ promotion where the company didn’t think even twice before taking the offensive with the poster clearly stating “Two months are enough to visit Los Santos,” courtesy Ubisoft Nordic.

Los Santos is the open world city that has been featured in the new Grand Theft Auto 5, as compared to Watch Dogs’ nearly realistic open world setting of Chicago.

Apparently, Ubisoft feels that a couple of months are enough to go through the entire Los Santos. Coincidentally, this is the exact amount of time left before Watch Dogs is released. It is only normal that all the existing big name developers will want to take a bite out of GTA 5’s success cake and try to base their own titles in that same light, especially when the title is another open-world affair.

While the new promotional advertisement is being circulated around popular social media networks at the moment, it is still to be found out if the advertisement is legitimately from Ubisoft. And if at all legitimate, this will probably be the first real shot fired via the rival open world game.

For the sake of comparison, Watch Dogs centers on the player’s ability to hack into a number of electronic systems, either to obtain and control information or to demolish those devices completely at any specific time.

“You play as Aiden Pearce, a brilliant hacker and former thug, whose criminal past led to a violent family tragedy. While seeking justice for those events, you'll monitor and hack those around you by manipulating the ctOS from the palm of your hand. You'll access omnipresent security cameras, download personal information to locate a target, control traffic lights and public transportation to stop the enemy,” the official page for the game states.

Watch Dogs is currently scheduled for a Nov. 19 release in North America for current generation consoles, and will be a launch title for both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
